Physical Inactivity
Physical inactivity is a term used to identify people who do not get the recommended level of regular physical activity. The American Heart Association recommends 30-60 minutes of aerobic exercise three to four times peer week to promote cardiovascular fitness
Sedentary Lives Can Be Deadly: Physical Inactivity Poses Greatest Health Risk To Americans and elsewhere, Expert Says.
Americans' physical inactivity "the biggest public health problem of the 21st century."
Researchers contend that physical inactivity is the primary cause of chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity and fatty liver disease and that even people who set aside time for exercise regularly but are otherwise sedentary, may not be active enough to combat these diseases. Inactivity, in addition to the availability of high-caloric food has led to an increased rate of metabolic dysfunction in Americans.
If people spend the majority of their time sitting, even with regular periods of exercise, they are still at greater risk for chronic diseases,If people can add some regular movement into their routines throughout the day, they will feel better and be less susceptible to health problems. In the long term, they may not see big changes in the mirror, but they will prevent further weight gain.
Everyone should try to take at least 10,000 steps a day.
If you’re not moving, then you’re not living!
Undoubtedly, this change in lifestyle has led in part to pervasive obesity, accelerated aging, and a generally lower level of functionality within our society.
The papers, published in The Lancet suggest that more than 5.3 million deaths would be avoided each year if all inactive people exercised, about the same toll as the 5 million deaths annually from smoking.
Inactivity has created a modern-day "pandemic", brought on by mechanisation of everyday jobs and domestic life, the ease of transport and the prevalence of sedentary leisure pursuits, such as computer games and watching television. All of this sitting doesn't leave too much time for physical activity, breaking a sweat and getting into shape. Learn some of the negative effects that are often associated with inactivity.
A sedentary lifestyle increases the propensity to aging-related disease and premature death. Inactivity may diminish life expectancy not only by predisposing to aging-related diseases but also because it may influence the aging process itself.
Forced to walk
More than 100 cities in South America have had some success combating this problem with schemes that periodically close large roads to traffic. Called the Ciclovía, the movement began 30 years ago in Bogotá, Colombia.
Heath says that at least a million people take advantage of the Ciclovía in Bogotá alone, keeping visitors active for an average of 140 to 180 minutes a week, and enabling about 14 per of the country's population to meet their weekly exercise targets.
It is estimated that approximately 35% of coronary heart disease mortality is due to physical inactivity.
Only about 22 percent of Americans report regular sustained physical activity (activity of any intensity lasting 30 minutes or more 5 times a week). Fifteen percent of Americans report vigorous activity (activity intense enough to make the heart beat fast and hard breathing for at least 20 minutes or more 3 times a week). Thus, improvements in physical activity can be gained in all segments of society. Physical inactivity is more prevalent among women, blacks and Hispanics, older adults and the less affluent.
You can not have enough proofs from so many researches all over the world to convince us that prolonged inactivity leads to premature deaths and chronic related diseases.
This leads me to what this article is about:
Walk Your Way To A Healthy Life.
Walking is a natural adaptation. You therefore walk or amble your way to and fro daily, without thinking or being concious of it.That God given ability to walk, is now taken over by our own inginuities in making things to do the walking for us.Too clever for our own good!
Motivation.
To get away from that grip of death,we must learn to motivate ourselves to move away from inactive life to a better healthier active life.
"Every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness."said Søren Kierkegaard, the 19th-century Danish philosopher.
